What is Beyond Fashion?

The Vignelli Center's 'Beyond Fashion' is a yearly gathering that showcases a handpicked assortment of garments, celebrating both design and community. It's an opportunity for aspiring students to be recognized. Each year, a unique theme encourages designers to explore their creativity, challenge the status quo, and give shape to radical concepts.

Synopsis

Develop of an immersive exhibit for RIT's Beyond Fashion Show, paying homage to Massimo Vignelli's design legacy. Utilized projection mapping and motion tracking along side Alexa , Alexis , Yohermry, and Farah.

2024 On the Table

BeyondFashion 2024

Synopsis

Collaborated in a team of 5 to design an 8-piece avant-garde collection inspired by Italian designer Massimo Vignelli with the theme “On the Table”. Transformed everyday materials using repurposed items and cutting-edge technology, personally incorporating over 300 forks into one piece to showcase unconventional beauty in high fashion.

Inspiration

This year's concept was “On the Table”. My mind raced to the idea of a gown constructed from forks! Aware of the impending deadline and my other commitments, my aim was to create something with a blend of craft and high fashion. My vision combined aesthetics with form.

When in Doubt, Use Cardboard…

The sprawling layout was crafted by slicing open a second-hand skirt's seams and bolstering it with cardboard for firmness. A bodice styled like a corset, constructed from cardboard and shattered plastic forks, introduced a striking, manufacturing-inspired texture, flawlessly integrating all aspects of the design.

Overview

This project was a challenging yet rewarding journey that I took on because of my passion for fashion. I was honored to have my piece recognized by the RIT community and designers and grateful to be chosen for the BeyondFashion showcase. Despite the challenges and long nights, our team created a collection we were all proud of.
